Hello and welcome to Pipestone. If you take the time
to stop and explore our wonderful community, you will
discover a prairie gem, rich in culture and history.
Pipestone has one of Minnesota's largest historic
districts with 20 beautiful quartzite buildings all
listed on the National Historic Register. The Pipestone
National Monument is a "must see" while you
are visiting. Native Americans still quarry the red
pipestone and visitors are encouraged to watch live
demonstrations of pipes and crafts being carved. But no
visit to the monument is complete without a walk through
the Coteau prairie and a view of Winnewissa Falls.

Pipestone is a community whose people not only
preserve the past, but in many ways live it. Civil
War Days will be celebrated in August this year as
well as our County Fair and the annual blessing of
the quarries. During the last two weekends in July
and the first weekend in August, Longfellow's
legendary "Song of Hiawatha" is performed.

This
production has thrilled young and old alike for
years. For true history buffs or just the curious,
stop into the Pipestone County Museum and see first
hand the wealth of history artfully preserved and
displayed.
An evening at the theater is most relaxing and enjoyable
at Pipestone's own Performing Arts Center. Entertainment
to appeal to all ages is offered, from classic, to
country folk to community theater. If
shopping is your bag, Fort Pipestone and the numerous
shops and boutiques offer interesting and unique gifts
from antiques to accessories. We've got it all.
While in town visit our many fine restaurants. Pipestone
is proud to have the Historic Calumet Inn as a
cornerstone of its historic district. Fine dining or
down home cooking is plentiful. If camping is more your
preference, the Pipestone Campground is conveniently
located just across from the Pipestone National
Monument.
Just when you think you've run out of things to do, you
will discover the beautiful modern Ewert Recreation
Center located in the heart of town. You can also enjoy
our Family Aquatic Center

or take in some golf at
our nine-hole course.
Unlike most "tourist stops," Pipestone has not
lost its charm or affordability. The people are friendly
and we hope that you will enjoy your stay and enjoy our
community as much as we do.
Sincerely,
